Air Pollution & Lawn Sprinkling
Air Pollution Control
LaGrange’s air pollution control ordinance prohibits all open burning including backyard incineration in a container of any type or burning leaves or any other materials on private or public property. Fires for the purpose of barbecuing or fires in indoor, private fireplaces are permitted provided the smoke coming from these fires does not exceed the limits of white or very light gray smoke as set forth in the ordinance. Smokestack and chimney emissions from stores, institutions, apartment buildings and one or two-family residences are also regulated by the ordinance.

Lawn Sprinkling Restrictions
Because the Village of LaGrange receives water from Lake Michigan, water conservation measures are required by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Water Resources to restrict outdoor water use and to encourage conservation.

Lawn sprinkling restrictions go into effect on May 15, and remain in effect through September 15. During this period no lawn sprinkling is allowed between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. A temporary permit is available to water newly seeded or sodded grass. Contact the Village at (708) 579-2300 if you have questions. If necessary, these restrictions can be expanded by the Village Manager; residents would be notified of any changes.
